Bet Odds

The odds you have after evaluating the number of callers to a raise.

Bet the Pot

When a player bets the amount that is equal to the amount of the pot.

Bicycle or Bike

A straight (A–2–3–4–5)

Big Slick

A hand that contains an Ace and King.

Blank

A card of no value.

Big Blind

Equal to the smallest bet possible.

Blinds

Bets placed by the two players on the left side of the dealers before the cards are handed out.

Blind Raise

When a player raises without looking at his hand.

Bluff

To make the other players believe you have a good hand by betting and raising.

Boat

A full house

Bottom Pair

When a player uses the lowest card on the flop to make a pair.

Bring it in

To bet on the first round.

A player who antes himself broke.

Bullets

A pair of Aces.

Bump

To raise.

Button

The dealers button that indicates who’s turn it is to be the dealer.

Buy-in

Calling Station

Check

Staying in the game, but not adding a bet.

Check Raise

When a player first checks and then raises in a betting round.

Chop

To split the pot or to return the blinds to the players who posted them and in no one call, to move to the next round.

Connectors

Connectors are two cards of the same suit that is next to each other in a hand.

Dead Man’s Hand

Two pair – Aces and Eights.

Dealer

The person who deals the cards.

Diamonds

One of the four playing card suits.

Hand that tend to lose against similar non-straight / flush hand, but that is okay to play.

Early Position

The two position on the left of the Blinds.

An inexperienced player.

The first three cards that are dealt face–up on the table. Also indicates the second round of betting.

Forced Bet

The required bet that starts the first round of a poker hand.

Full House

Any three cards of the same number or face value, plus any other two cards of the same number or face value.

The best five cards.

High Limit

A game where the amounts wagered are high.

Hi/Low

Split pot games.

The place where poker is being hosted.

Inside Straight

Four cards that require another between the top and bottom card to complete a straight.

Maniac

An aggressive player who plays a lot of hands.
